Teacher and Staff of the Month Recognition Award Program
It takes a team to help a school and district function effectively, and all employees play an important role in the lives of
young adults, families, and the community. Each month, we recognize outstanding teachers and staff members who make a positive impact at Ellicott Middle School. We recently created a Teacher of the Month Award and Staff Member of the Month Award. Those receiving awards are nominated by the students, parents, administrators, teachers, and staff members for excellence in their classroom and positive contributions to Ellicott Middle School.
Teacher of the Month Award
This award has been established to recognize our outstanding educators for their dedication, professionalism, and excellence in instruction.
Selection Criteria: Each month, we will recognize a different educator based on their contribution to the school, excellence in the classroom, leadership abilities, citizenship, community involvement, and going above-and-beyond for students. Teachers will be nominated and selected based on the following criteria:

Excellence in the Classroom
-
Ability to engage students in class and consistently advance them to higher levels of academic achievement.

Demonstrating creativity and imagination in their lesson plans and teaching methods that inspire students to learn.

Good classroom management skills by establishing clear objectives for each lesson and working to meet those specific objectives during each class.

Motivation
-
Having the ability to motivate and encourage students to advance past their expectations both academically and socially; helping students see potential in themselves.

Leadership
-
Has a team player attitude not only within their own classroom, department, or grade level, but on a school wide level.

Approaches challenges and changes positively in a problem-solving manner.

Driving positive change and development in classroom practices and student learning; leading students by example and inspiring them to lead.

Care
-
Actively caring for each student; making each student feel that they matter.

Participating in programs and activities during and outside of the school day in support of the community, campus, and students.

Dedication and Professionalism

Showing excellent attendance, punctuality and a desire to see their students advance.

Showing respect for peers and interacting in a positive manner with staff and students; acts in a responsible, ethical manner.

Good Communication with Students, Colleagues and Parents outside Classroom

Keeping parents informed of the all-round development of their student; connects with students and parents via phone, email, social media etc.

Maintains weekly grading requirements with no prompting.

Teachers have long-lasting impacts on the lives of their students and the greatest teachers inspire students toward greatness. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” – Maya Angelou.
A great teacher is one a student remembers and cherishes forever.
Staff Member of the Month Award
This was established to recognize our outstanding staff (paras, social emotional support, library, coaches, kitchen, front office, transportation, IT, maintenance, and custodial) members for their dedication, professionalism, and excellence in their positions. Those receiving these awards can be nominated by the students, parents, administrators, teachers, and staff members for excellence in their position and positive contributions to Ellicott Middle School.
Selection Criteria: Each month, we recognize a different staff member and on their contributions to the school, leadership abilities, citizenship, community involvement, and going above-and-beyond for students, staff, and the Ellicott School district. Staff members will be nominated and selected based on the following criteria:

Goes above and beyond expectations

Excels as a team player

Demonstrates a positive attitude, professionalism, dedication, and respect for others

Represents the “Thunderhawk Spirit” and is committed to being Supportive, Open-minded, Accountable, and Responsible (S.O.A.R).

HOW TO SUBMIT NOMINATIONS
You may submit your nomination by doing the following…

Drop it off at the middle school front office in an envelope to Mr. Stewart by the 20th of each month by 4:00 p.m.

Email it to: dontestewart@esd22.org or go to the following link to fill it out digitally.
Nomination forms are available at the middle school office or click nomination form.. We will award the Ellicott Teacher and Staff Member of the Month a certificate and pin, recognition during announcements and on social media, designated parking place, a gift card, and an administrator will do their job or duty for 1 hour or class period.
